Tutorial: "From FMEA to Control Plan: Turning Process Risk into Effective Controls” How do you turn the risks identified in a PFMEA into controls that actually prevent defects and protect the customer? This practical tutorial will explore the critical connection between Process Flow, PFMEA, Control Plans, Work Instructions, and process data. Participants will learn how to translate identified failure modes and causes into effective prevention and detection controls, determine appropriate sampling and monitoring strategies, and develop meaningful reaction plans when a process moves out of control. Using practical manufacturing examples, a dimensional-defect case study, visual examples, and an interactive exercise, the session will demonstrate how to move beyond “having an FMEA and Control Plan” toward a risk-based quality planning system that actively controls the process. Speaker: Paul Amira, Quality Engineering Program Manager – Bureau of Engraving and Printing (US Treasury) * Paul began his professional career in 2003 with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in West Africa, where he advanced to the role of Project Electrical Engineer by 2010. * In 2010, Paul relocated to the United States and joined Toshiba International Corporation in Houston, Texas, where he served as a Quality Control Team Lead. * In 2016, he transitioned to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), U.S. Department of the Treasury, in Fort Worth, Texas. He serves as the Manager of the Quality Engineering Division at the Western Currency Facility of the BEP. * Paul has been an active member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) since 2013, and joined the Greater Fort Worth Section in 2017. He has served two terms as Treasurer and currently holds the position of Vice Chair. * He is an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) and holds a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification. Paul earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in Nigeria and a Master of Science degree in Quality and Engineering Management from Tarleton State University, Stephenville, Texas. |

Program Topic: "Navigating FDA’s QMSR: From QSIT to Risk-Based Inspections” The FDA Quality Management System Regulation (QMSR) is changing the way organizations approach quality management and regulatory inspections. Six months into implementation, organizations are gaining real-world experience with the transition from the traditional Quality System Inspection Technique (QSIT) model to a more integrated, risk-based approach. Mar 2026 Tutorial: “Thinking about Thinking” Much of our day’s activities comprise of routine activities, at work, at home, and most everywhere else. To save brainpower, we’ve developed habits and default decisions to take care of running much of our lives during our waking hours. However, sometimes we must think about the activity to accomplish. We’re having conversations with others or taking on new tasks that we’ve never done before or only very occasionally. This presentation will focus on where thinking is required rather than defaulting those routines that keep life decisions and actions simple. Nine different thinking modes will be shared, supplemented with some Decision Mastery concepts. Mar 2026 Main Program: “High Reliability Organization” What is a High Reliability Organization? What are the characteristics of an HRO? How does one work to get there and how does it align with Baldrige and other organizational excellence efforts? This talk provides an explanation of what a High Reliability Organization is and a roadmap on what is needed to work toward it if an organization wants to work toward high reliability. Speaker: Jim Bossert, Continuous Improvement Lead, Oncor Electric Delivery • Prior to Oncore Jim was a Performance Excellence Manger at JPS Hospital, where he worked on High Reliability Initiatives. He has been actively involved in quality and process improvement in all levels of management for over 35 years. • His experiences in a variety of industries have allowed him to help many diverse industries in the implementation of Rapid Process Improvement. Some of these industries are automotive manufacturing and design, chemical and process manufacturing, mobile phones, banking and finance, healthcare, and performance excellence. Dr. Bossert received his MBB from GE. He has certified Green Belts, Black Belts and Master Black Belts in these industries. • Jim has authored the Supplier Management Handbook and Supplier Certification among other books. He is the past editor of the Six Sigma Forum magazine. He was named Quality Magazine’s Quality Professional of the Year in 2018. Tour Scope: The tour will include an overview of the printing process and the equipment used, additionally, at each production stage the tour will include the purpose, workflow, and a quality control overview. Our guide will also cover some other company fun facts throughout the tour.
Guidelines & Notable Restrictions:
* MUST be a member of the Ft Worth Section, verified by membership number.
* Photo ID required.
* Minimum participant age: 18
* 100% walking/standing for 1-1.5 hour (no mobility assistance / limited seating)
* No recording or photography at any given time during the tour
* Footwear requirement: Closed toe shoes. Any individual not wearing closed toe shoes will not be granted access to the facility for safety reasons.
* Recommended attire: No loose clothing

For two years, an effort was made to improve reliability through a focus on equipment redesign. No improvement. A further study of failure reports revealed that most errors were human procedural errors, thus a shifted focus on training . The study also exposed a failure of an effective leadership culture. This presentation will delve into the creation of true leaders at every level vs just typical management activities. By focusing on leaders, failures were cut in half within three years. At Medtronic, he was selected to be the first ever Quality Assurance Technical Fellow. We are dictated practices (rules) in standards defined by customers and industries (i.e. AIAG). What flexibility could be applied based on actual process performance? Can we justify challenges to those requirements that can reduce QA work and speed up decision making? We’ll explore the relationship between GR&R and Cpk quality measurements for answers! This presentation will challenge assumptions and provide potential alternatives that the speaker has implemented in his prior operations, and still maintaining appropriate risk minimization.
